a rainy day...

Hello folks, true that time hasn't been on my side these past months... hopefully that will change in a month or two!!

Nothing new around here, just another rainy day in København. This country was not made to south people.. that are used to sunny and warm spring days.. with beach, sweat and laziness!

Taking the analogy from Hollywood, rainy days omens tragidy... today, May 4th, I am supposed to hand in the endless final report of my DTU project. Just like any proud portuguese, I won't do it!! I know that if I say: "It's not my fault to be late!" nobody believes me... but I can always try! It was not my FAULT! Thus, is today's weather omining something?? Hope not.. I can't look more forward to deliver this report and end this life-chapter.

Someone was worried about what would I do after I finish this... well.. I must confess that some FREE time for doing nothing else than.. NOTHING, would be just GREAT! But it happens, that after this, comes another, and after that one, another month with classes starts... so that means that I won't have so soon my precious free time to do something that I decide!!

Finally, a sorry note: next weekend I'll miss the wedding-day of a dearest friend! Sorry about that.. the life of ilegal emigrant has this kind of issues...

See you soon,...,or later!

alive & kickin

Howdy!!

Long time since the last post...well, time has not been on my side! Many things happened, others changed and even others are still just the same as last year. Once again, there's no time to explain everything, so let's just make a quick résumé:

The same: the sky is blue and the water wet; the intention of joining old-retired-containers-folk in here falls in the dreams category; the kantine food doesn't get better...

The changes: the landscape got white; the temperature lower; the world, european, and portuguese football champion is no longer first in the league (but hopefully not for long!);

The news: just like in christmas, last Friday was easter beer's day - Tuborg Påskebryg; a new semester; I never had to work so much before;

Nostalgic Kodac Moment: a new semester started...this includes new foreign faces. Just like 2 years ago, they all met in that room inside Kantine (in 101) on the first Tuesday of the International Week. I could see all that anxious scaried faces, looking everywhere, checking the lists to see where to sit... Later on, in Kellabar, everyone was happier, tasting for the first time the danish Øl, making a strange face (maybe while they were computing the conversion to a familiar currency, or maybe due to the result of that..)
Two years ago we were there, for the first time! Let them now enjoy!

The biggest Christmas Tree in Europe, english version

What happen was that I was in Belém (Lisbon) at the Europe's biggest Christmas Tree inauguration, yes I repeat Europe, because when we do this kind of things we do it BIG, and I turned to a turist:
- Hey, in your home country you don't have something like this, right? The biggest in Europe man, the BIGGEST!
And then the guy turns to me saying: because this and that, and in my country we prefer to spend money in other things, p.e. to avoid that water pipes blow and therefore cause harm to thousands of people.. more this and that! And me, a dude that has an easiness in the exposition of arguments, didn't turn back and I said to him right away:
- The Biggest in Europe man!! Are you deaf?
Then he starts talking about I don't know what, because in his country, when it rains the river side zones don't get floded, and that perhaps it was better that, instead of the tree, the money should have been used to prevent this situations. Well, I started to get annoyed and I said to him:
- Hey man, are we going to have problems? I am here displaing arguments that... are great, and you come with this fucking talk of you don't know what... I don't even want to start speaking in the huge lunch on the bridge, nor in the Santas parade, or else you wouldn't know where to hide... The dude start saying something related to tunnels that are not finished and I don't know what more, so I just turned my back on him. Because when I see these dudes who cannot accept the superiority of a country and still they speak, speak, speak, speak and they do not say anything at all, I get upset, of course I get really upset.

Just like in america...

This morning, on my way to DTU, something that I only have seen in movies happened.

I was biking aside the highway, the way I normaly take, when 2 police cars passed in the highway, quite fast, heading the same way as me. Nothing new until now, but after 2 minutes, in the opposite direction, on the nearest track of the highway to me, 4 police cars were coming with all the blue lights and buzzers on. As normal, all cars moved aside as much as they could... all except one. An old Citroen just moved in front of the nearest police car hindering them to pass... so it was easy to see that the police was chasing that car!! The driver seemed to be a young guy from... Turkey! There's a lot of them here and they are the main cause of problem. 10 seconds after more police: 2 cars and a moto. And just behind them, another 2 cars and 2 motos. In total, 8 police cars (2 of them civil cars, detective style with the blue lamp on top of it) and 3 police motos. It's hard to belive that all this police was chasing only that old Citroen... specially when the 4 cars in citroen's tail were new Mercedes. In america, I would say this is just normal... taking it from movies. 1 car heading Mexico or Canada border and all the police force after it, crashing against every obstacle, keeping the emotion until the end, where the bad guy dies in an amazing explosion due to an incredible crash against a huge truck full of gas. Therefore causing the complete destruction of a nice quiet neighborhood.

I don't know the end of this story.. maybe later today in the TV news, or in tomorrow's newspapers. But I was wondering how long that old Citroen could last, and if all the police cars were persuing only this car. And why not, what started all this??

By the way, Porto beated 2-1 Chelsea last night in the Dragon's Stadium! We are still in the race.. be aware! And today is HOLIDAY in Portugal! Coincidence, or not!

bad days...

There are good days, bad days, more or less days and days like today! Today is one of those days that for whatever you do, it always end up wrong. It began with getting up late. Then an idea: "Go to Netto now instead of latter this afternoon". It took us more than 1h to go shop. The nearest Netto is only 2 minutes away. But, once I couldn't find all that I would need for the day, I had to go to SuperBrugsen (100m away). There, I bought what I needed and after I have paid the things were not waiting for me as supposed to. I asked the guy from the store, he said he didn't know. In the queue before me was an old man... so I thought "The fuckin' old man just packed all things in his bag." I go to ask him, but before I say anything Hronn asks me "What are you doing? I already packed our stuff!". Probably red as a tomato, I said sorry to the old man. He just laughed about it. Back home I realise that I forgot something, so back to Netto.
15 minutes later and we are waiting at the bus stop. We took 5A as usual and clip twice the 3-zone clipcard. 3 zones allow us to go until Lyngby. DTU is 4 zones away, but it works once we take a bus in Lyngby, (inside the 3 zones limit), to DTU though it shouldn't (this is easier to understand to who knows the system). The bus trip to DTU includes 3 busses. So after 5A we jump to 200S until Lyngby. Inside this bus I realised that in our clipcard, the trip is marked as we have started it in zone 01 (copenhagen center) when we started it in 02. This means that we are short in zones. "Fuckin' bus driver forgot to change the zone on time!". What to do? Changing to 300S (the one that take us to DTU) as soon as possible seemed to be the best choice. We quickly jump off 200S, wait for 8 minutes and get in 300S. Bad luck, this one stops in Lyngby. We have just lost time. In Lyngby I started to feel my hands very cold. "Strange.. where are my gloves?". Well.. didn't take long to realise that I left them inside 200S when I tried to get out as fast as I could. With 0 degrees is not a good advice not use gloves, expecially to bike without it. So, with no busses available and without zones in the clipcard, we had to walk 20 minutes to DTU. All the way I though: "I have my hands cold because the 5A Bus driver forgot to do his job!!" Mad and without gloves I started a new cold day. I will remember him again today while I bike home. :(

News Report

Today news say that a two-day bad weather will strike scandinavia countries. Denmark, Sweden and Norway will be attacked by strong winds and a bunch of snow.

Can't wait!! :D

Although the passed night had been quite bad due to rain and wind, today the sun shines high in the sky. The wind blows strongly, but far from what weather people predict. Let's see what will happen.

J-Dag

Denmark is a country of beer. Everyone loves it around here. Tuborg and Carlsberg are probably the most known danish beers around the world, but they still have plenty more. And just to show how these people are crazy by beer, they make new beers all the time. Comparing, it's like us making tradicional portuguese food along the year. This last week was a very good example of that. The difference started in the calendar: Mandag, Tirsdag, Onsdag, Torsdag and J-Dag. J-Dag stands for Julebryg-dag. Known in the non-danish-speaker commune by Christmas Beer Day. Tuborg presented the beer that Danes should drink until (or in) Christmas. Just like they do in Easter. Of course that, when such day comes all the nation get together and make justice to fame. They all get drunk! It's like becoming millionaire. And because this 2 events only happen once per year, they have to improvise. So, on non-holiday times they just make a new beer to be judged by all people. A beer is in stores for 6 months and then, if it was well accepted it will stay longer. If not, a new one takes the chance.

Being a beer is not a easy task up here. And even worst somebody that likes beer.

By the way, it's fuckin' cold outside...
